Fathers

dads & family

Our Why

What We Do:

We are here to fight against the effects of the fatherless epidemic. The aim of our Fatherhood Initiative is that more fathers will be welcomed and engaged in ways that support personal, child, and family well-being. According to most early childhood development research "Fathers and Their Impact on Children's Well-Being": it is generally accepted, under most circumstances, that a father's presence and involvement can be as crucial to a child's healthy development. Studies consistently show that children with involved, loving fathers are much more likely to do well in school; have healthy self-esteem; exhibit empathy and pro-social behavior; and avoid high-risk behaviors—such as drug use, truancy, and delinquent activity—than children who have uninvolved fathers (Horn & Sylvester, 2002). Through our programs and services, we prepare men to become involved in the life of their child(ren) and train, educate and empower new and current fathers on how to build relationships with their child(ren) and become fully immersed in parenthood through first addressing their boundaries and learning practical skills to become the best versions of themselves for their offspring.

  •  Children who live in a fatherless home are 279% more likely to deal drugs or carry firearms for offensive purposes compared to children who live with their fathers.

  • Living in a fatherless home is a contributing factor to substance abuse, with children from such homes accounting for 75% of adolescent patients being treated in substance abuse centers.

Underrepresented

I believe that education is one of the greatest equalizers of our society - the one key all people should have access to unlock impossibility.

- Robert Marshall

Our Why

What We Do:

Through our ARROW Mentorship program, we provide a dashboard of items to support minority males through the most challenging and rewarding times of their lives.  We provide culturally sensitive transformational mentorship and advisement services for male students of color. Through our ARROW Mentorship initiative, we desire to eradicate boundaries that inhibit the success of minority male high school and college students. By providing resources and opportunities that connect, educate, empower and expose them to all that the world has to offer. Our objective is to empower underrepresented student groups by giving them life skills and techniques needed to navigate their way to success.

Our approach to mentorship is holistic and unorthodox. We believe in an "emic" approach by meeting the student where he is and providing him with the tools necessary to be a whole man.  Our program has been noted and designed for:

  • Increasing Self -Esteem

  • College Preparedness

  • Academic Empowerment

  • Improving Retention & Graduation Rates

  • Decreasing Recidivism & Violence

  • Increasing Cultural Awareness & Inclusivity

  • Spiritual Enrichment

ARROW is a male retention program, designed to increase the number of minority males graduating from high school and college by providing increased holistic student services, academic support, service-learning projects, community service projects and mentoring.

Male Sexual Trauma Survivors

Healing is the journey, wholeness is the destination -  Joshua P. Smith

In a culture where hyper-masculinity is celebrated, men often suffer in silence. We are creating a space where the silenced voices of men from all walks of life will be heard and seen. Through various social services and support groups, we help men along their journey to wholeness.

Our hope is to empower male survivors to break their silence, abandon their shame, fear and reject the lies of inferiority, weakness, and frailty.

What We Do:

  • Support Groups

  • Conferences

  • Personal & Group Coaching Sessions

Returning
Citizens

Everyone deserves another chance

Through our programs, we give men the tools they need to succeed in life after incarceration. Through our social-emotional learning and professional development seminars. These men are able to return back into their communities with skills and trades to become positive and self-sufficient contributors to their communities.
